Workers at Windsor’s Stellantis assembly plant will return to the job for at least two weeks, their union announced Friday.
Production is scheduled to resume on both shifts for the weeks of April 21 and April 28, Unifor Local 444 said in a post to social media.
“The company has made no decisions beyond that as of yet,” the union said.
Production at the facility has been paused for a week, after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on imported vehicles. Production will also be paused the week of April 14, before workers return April 21.
The company referred to its previous statement on the temporary plant closure when asked for comment Friday. “Stellantis continues to assess the effects of the recently announced U.S. tariffs on imported vehicles and will continue to engage with the U.S. Administration on these policy changes,” the statement said.
The news comes within hours of General Motors announcing that it will pause production at its CAMI assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ont., from May to October, and will move to one shift when it resumes production. The move means about 500 workers will receive indefinite layoff notices.
Layoffs at that facility are expected to begin Monday, per the union.
