The Florida Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 on Tuesday to win the 2025 Stanley Cup four games to two. It was a memorable game for Panthers centre Sam Reinhart of West Vancouver, British Columbia, who made Panthers history with four goals. Reinhart tied the Panthers record with most goals in a game and the National Hockey League record for most goals in a Stanley Cup clinching game, and set the Panthers franchise record with the most goals in a playoff game.
Reinhart opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at 4:36 of the third period. He then put the Panthers up 3-0 with two minutes and 29 seconds left in the second period from Carter Verhaeghe of Toronto, Ontario and Aleksander Barkov. Reinhart then scored from Verhaeghe and Barkov again with six minutes and 34 seconds left into an empty net to put Florida 4-0, and then from Verhaeghe and defenseman Aaron Ekblad of Windsor, Ontario on an all-Canadian goal with five minutes and five seconds left into an empty net to put Florida up 5-0.
In the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, Reinhart had 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points. He had a NHL leading 11 even strength goals and was a +5 with six penalty minutes, four power-play points, 63 shots on goal, 33 faceoff wins, 23 blocked shots, 38 hits, eight takeaways, and 13 giveaways.
The only other player to score four goals in a Stanley Cup clinching game according to Rogers Sportsnet was Babe Dye of Hamilton. Ontario. Dye accomplished the feat in a 5-1 Toronto St. Patricks win over the Vancouver Millionaires on March 28, 1922. The other three Panthers who have scored four goals in a game are Verhaeghe, Mark Parrish and Pavel Bure (who did it twice). Verhaeghe accomplished the feat on April 1, 2023 in a 7-0 Panthers win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
