
Canadian Olympic gold medalist Summer McIntosh of Toronto, Ontario has won her fifth career gold medal at the World Aquatics Championships. In the women’s 400 metre freestyle at the 2025 Women’s Aquatics Championships in Singapore on Sunday, McIntosh had a gold medal winning time of 3:56.26.
McIntosh reached the podium by 2.61 seconds. Lani Pallister of Australia finished in fourth place with a time of 3:58.87. Bingjie Li of China won the silver medal with a time of 3:58.21. Katie Ledecky of the United States won the bronze medal with a time of 3:58.49.
This was McIntosh’s first world championship gold medal in the women’s 400 metre freestyle. She won the silver medal in the event at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. McIntosh set the World Record in the women’s 400 metre freestyle at the 2025 Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria, British Columbia on June 7 with a time of 3:54.18.
McIntosh won two gold medals for Canada at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest (women’s 200 metre butterfly and the women’s 400 metre medley). She won two more gold medals for Canada at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan (women’s 200 metre butterfly and the women’s 400 metre medley). McIntosh’s gold medals in Paris came in the women’s 200 metre butterfly, women’s 200 metre medley, and the women’s 400 metre medley. McIntosh’s gold medal in Singapore will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
