
Two Canadians reached the podium in the same event on Monday at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. In the women’s 200 metre individual medley, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Summer McIntosh of Toronto, Ontario won the gold medal, and Mary-Sophie Harvey of Laval, Quebec won the bronze medal.
McIntosh posted a winning time of 206.69. Harvey’s third place time was 2:09.15. McIntosh reached the podium by 2.52 seconds and Harvey reached the podium by six one hundredths of a second. Twelve-year-old Chinese sensation Zidi Yu finished in fourth place with a time of 2:09.21. Alex Walsh of the United States won the silver medal with a time of 2:08.58.
McIntosh holds the world record in the women’s 200 metre individual medley. She had a time of 2:05.70 at the 2025 Canadian Trials in Victoria, British Columbia on June 9.
At the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, McIntosh has now won two gold medals. She previously placed first in the women’s 400 metre freestyle on Sunday. Canada now has four medals, as Simome Leathead of Montreal, Quebec won the silver medal in the women’s 20 metre high diving event on Saturday.
This was McIntosh’s 10th medal at the World Aquatics Championships. She now has six gold medals, one silver medal, and three bronze medals. This is Harvey’s third medal at the World Aquatics Championships. Her first two medals came in relay events.
McIntosh is currently attempting to win five gold medals at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. She is still to compete in the women’s 200 metre butterfly on Thursday, the women’s 800 metre freestyle on Saturday and the women’s 400 metre medley on Sunday. McIntosh is the reigning Olympic champion in the women’s 200 metre butterfly, women’s 200 metre medley and the women’s 400 metre medley from the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The medals for McIntosh and Harvey will give them confidence for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
