Jet Greaves records first career NHL hat trick

Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Jet Greaves of Cambridge, Ontario recorded his first career National Hockey League shutout on Saturday. He accomplished the feat in a 7-0 Columbus Blue Jackets win over the Washington Capitals at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

Greaves made 22 saves for the shutout. He made six saves in the first period, five saves in the second period, and 11 saves in the third period.

On the season, Greaves has as record of four regulation wins, two regulation losses, and two losses in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.37 and a save percentage of .921. The shutout for Greaves came in his 18th NHL appearance.

Four Canadians scored for the Blue Jackets. They were Adam Fantilli of Nobleton, Ontario, Cole Sillinger of Regina, Saskatchewan, Kent Johnson of Port Moody, British Columbia, and Sean Monahan of Brampton, Ontario. Fantilli actually scored twice. Three Canadians on the Blue Jackets had a multi-point game. Fantili had two goals, while Johnson and Monahan each had one goal and one assist.

With the win, the Blue Jackets improved to a record of 37 wins, 33 regulation losses and nine losses in extra time for 83 points. Columbus also kept its playoff hopes alive. They are five points back of the Montreal Canadiens for a playoff spot.
