Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jameson Taillon recorded his 99th Major League Baseball quality start on Thursday. The American-born Canadian accomplished the feat in a 3-2 Cubs win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Taillon threw six and one third innings and gave up four hits, two earned runs, and two walks, to go along with seven strikeouts. Taillon threw 92 pitches and had 57 strikes.
It was Taillon’s fifth consecutive win and fifth consecutive quality start. He also accomplished the feat in a 14-1 Cubs win over the Miami Marlins on May 20, in a 3-1 Cubs win over the Colorado Rockies on May 26, in a 7-3 Cubs win over the Cincinnati Reds on June 1 and in a 6-1 Cubs win over the Detroit Tigers on June 7. In this stretch, Taillon has given up only seven runs in 33 innings.
For the season, Taillon has a record of seven wins and three losses with an earned run average of 3.48. In 82 2/3 innings pitched, he has given up 65 hits, 32 earned runs, 16 home runs, and 16 walks, to go along with 65 strikeouts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 0.98. Of Taillon’s 99 quality starts, 44 have been with the Pirates, 20 have been with the New York Yankees and 35 have been with the Cubs.
The Cubs lead the National League with a record of 42 wins and 28 losses. They are five games up on the Milwaukee Brewers.
