Arop and Brown win medals at Grand Slam Track Philadelphia

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Aaron Brown of Toronto, Ontario, and Canadian Olympic silver medalist Marco Arop of Edmonton, Alberta won medals on Saturday in the Grand Slam Track event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Brown, who won a gold medal in the men’s 4×100 metre relay at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, won the bronze medal in Philadelphia in the men’s 200 metres, and Arop, who won a silver medal in the men’s 800 metres at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, won the gold medal in Philadelphia in the men’s 800 metres.

Brown had a third place time in the men’s 200 metres on Saturday of 20.5 seconds. Kenny Bednarek of the United States won the gold medal with a time of 19.95 seconds. Zharnel Hughes of Great Britain won the silver medal with a time of 20.5 seconds. Brown reached the podium by 0.14 seconds over two-time Canadian Olympic gold medalist Andre de Grasse of Scarborough, Ontario, who had a fourth place time of 20.64 seconds. De Grasse won gold in the men’s 200 metres at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, and teamed up with Brown to win gold in the men’s 4×100 metre relay at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Arop had a winning time of 1:43.38. Joseph Hoey of the United States finished in second with a time of 1:44.41. Yared Nuguse of the United States won the bronze medal with a time of 1:45.36. Arop reached the podium by 2.22 seconds over Hobbs Kessler of the United States, who had a fourth place time of 1:45.60. The medals in Philadelphia for Arop and Brown will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
