Denis Shapovalov of Toronto, Ontario is in the final of the 2025 Los Cabos Open in Mexico. This is Shapovalov’s second ATP final of 2025. In February, he beat Casper Ruud of Norway, the three-time grand slam finalist (2022 and 2023 French Open, and 2022 United States Open), 7-6, 6-3.
On Saturday, Shapovalov, the 2021 Wimbledon semifinalist, will face Aleksandar Kovacevic of the United States. In the tournament, Shapovalov is seeded third, and Kovacevic is seeded seventh. In the ATP World Rankings, Shapovalov is ranked 33rd and Kovacevic is ranked 76th. This will be their first meeting all-time.
In the Los Cabos Open to date, Shapovalov beat Govind Nanda of the United States 6-1, 6-2 in the second round. Due to the fact Shapovalov was seeded in the top four, he got a first round bye. Shapovalov then beat Australian Tristan Schoolkate 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals, and then another Australian Adam Walton of Australia, the eighth seed, 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals.
It will now be interesting to see how Shapovalov does against Kovacevic as the favourite. Shapovalov next has the National Bank Open in Toronto which is set to start on July 27. This year the field is expanding in terms of the number of participants, and the number of days the tournament is taking place.
