It was also the second straight year that a Canadian tennis player reached the final of the Libema Open. Last year, 2019 United States Open champion Bianca Andreescu of Mississauga, Ontario reached the final before losing to Liudmila Samsonova of Russia 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
In Sunday’s final, Diallo won a fascinating second set tiebreak 10-8. Diallo broke Bergs with his only break point opportunity in the first set, and was the better server. Diallo had nine aces and two double faults, and Bergs had seven aces and five double faults.
This was the fourth time in 2025 a Canadian men’s tennis player won an ATP event. Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec won in Adelaide and Montpellier in January. Denis Shapovalov of Toronto, Ontario won in Dallas in February.
With the win, Diallo improves to 44th in the world. He next plays Billy Harris of Great Britain in the first round of the Queen’s Club Championship on Tuesday.
