
The Florida Panthers are tied with the Edmonton Oilers at one after two games in the 2025 National Hockey League Stanley Cup Finals. On Friday night at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Brad Marchand of Halifax, Nova Scotia scored his fifth career Stanley Cup Playoff overtime winner. He accomplished the feat at 8:05 of the second overtime period from Anton Lundell to give the Panthers a 5-4 victory.
Marchand scored twice in the contest, with both goals coming on the breakaway. Marchand also scored at 12:09 of the second period shorthanded from Lundell to put the Panthers up 4-3 at the time. Marchand was one of two Canadians to score for the Panthers. The other was Sam Bennett of Holland Landing, Ontario.
Marchand’s first Stanley Cup Playoff overtime winner came on May 16, 2013 in a 3-2 Boston Bruins win over the New York Rangers in game one of the Eastern Conference semifinals at 15:40 of the extra period. That was followed by a 4-3 Bruins win over the Washington Capitals on May 17, 2021 in game two of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals at the 39 second mark of the extra period, a 2-1 Bruins win over the New York Islanders on June 3, 2021 in game three of the Eastern Conference semifinals at 3:36 of the extra period, and in a 5-4 Panthers win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on May 9, 2025 in game three of the Eastern Conference semifinals at 15:27 of the extra period.
